Ceramic vs. Carbon vs. Dyed Tint: What Actually Matters in Florida Heat

Every tint shop says their film "rejects 99% of heat." Most of that is marketing. Here is the honest comparison we give customers in their own driveways across Navarre, Gulf Breeze and Pensacola — including the number the sales pages leave out.

The number that matters: TSER

Total Solar Energy Rejected is the percentage of the sun’s total energy — visible light, infrared and UV combined — that never enters your car. Dyed film runs 25–35% TSER, carbon 40–50%, quality ceramic 55–65%. When a sales page brags "99% heat rejection," it is quoting infrared-only at one wavelength. Ask for TSER; a shop that won’t quote it is hiding something.

Dyed film: the budget trap

Dyed tint looks good for about two Gulf Coast summers, then turns purple and bubbles — Florida UV is brutal on dye. It also does little for heat. We don’t install it, and most removals we do in Navarre are failed dyed film from box stores.

Carbon: the value pick

Carbon film holds its color for life, cuts a meaningful amount of heat, and starts at $199 installed on a sedan. If the budget is fixed and the car is a daily driver, carbon is an honest choice — that’s why it’s in our lineup.

Ceramic: what Florida actually calls for

Ceramic and ceramic-IR films block the most infrared where you feel heat on your skin, with zero signal interference — GPS, toll transponders and 5G pass straight through.
